When the Client Doesn’t Like Your Work…
As designers, our job is to solve problems and answer creative briefs. But let's be honest, presenting the first draft can be nerve-wracking. What if the client says, “erm, Paula, this isn’t really what we had in mind”?
PANIC?!!!………. Absolutely NOT.
You’re a professional. Not every piece will be an instant hit, and that’s okay. When feedback comes in, it’s not a sign of failure—it's a chance to adjust and refine. You revisit the brief, absorb the feedback, and rework your designs. Remember, you’re a problem solver. And problem-solving is your superpower.
These are the moments where you grow as a creative. Don’t spiral into doubt—rise to the challenge. Create, revise, and bring your A-game. Make some extra options, discuss with your client, and evolve the project together. It’s not personal; it’s constructive.
Take it from the agency world—projects can go all the way to near completion only to be scrapped and sent back to square one by the stakeholders. It’s not the end of the world. You pick up the tools, you create again, and you adapt. That’s the life of a designer.
March on. Create more.
