Joys of a Creative

You know what I enjoy most about being a creative? The freedom to make whatever you want and live in your own little dream world.

As a kid, I was always called a daydreamer, constantly distracted and lost in thought. Hey there, inner monologue!

Some days, scrolling through LinkedIn, I get caught up in the endless AI discussions that can feel a bit doom-and-gloom—especially in the art and design world and it can sometimes get me in a bit of a pickle. But honestly, there are far more days when I'm completely immersed in bringing to life the ideas that kept me up at night, or trying to figure out how to create better 3D simulations, than there are days where I'm caught up worrying about the future of my career.

And yes, technology is advancing faster than we can keep up with, providing an endless stream of new things to learn and new software to master. It can be daunting, but it also means we can never really be bored. (This is the part where you tell me, "Paula, get out of the house and go see friends!")

When I first started learning 3D, it felt like I'd never figure it out—pausing every second of a tutorial to make sure I was clicking on the right thing. Now, I'm building whatever I can imagine (well, almost), fully aware that there's more of the software I don't know than what I do. Fun, right? The more we learn, the less we know. Each new learning path opens up ten more.

The same goes for design. There's always more to explore: design theory, artist movements over the decades, font pairings, cinematography, compositions, transitions, camera movements, color theory… I could go on and on.

That's the joy of our industry—it's ever-evolving. And we, as creatives, are natural problem solvers.

Whether AI takes my job or not, you'll find me creating fun things digitally for the rest of my life. And who knows, maybe I'll dig out my paints again too. ❤️
